First autocross with the new car was... alright. The course was honestly garbage. Far too tight, and I’m saying that as a Miata owner. A soon as you’re able to get any speed some ridiculous sharp corner comes up and kills your fun. On the plus side, there was a slick spot in one of the corners I got some decent oppo in every time. You can see in this video at 0:32 shit gets hektik, yo.

Fourth run. 75.718, no cones.

Fifth run. Gopro mounted to the nose of the car. Can hear the engine really well. 75.337 and 1 cone

2nd run. 76.914

1st run. 78.169.

And now some pictures, taken by my girlfriend.

We even had the front porch.

I’ve been on courses WAY tighter than that. This actually looks quite fun. I see videos all the time of courses that are basically just slaloms with a turnaround followed by more slaloms. Now that is boring and way too easy! But yeah the last course I had run was making my Miata understeer like crazy and more throttle was somehow pushing the front wheels. I have since replaced my rear end links which I think will balance things out a bit better for the next event.

Ain’t that the textbook definition of autocrosses?? (Runs away to hide)

No, this was not a typical course. Usually you can get into good flow, this was bad. I had a miserable time out on course.

Can confirm, was not fun. Was just frustrating.

Oh hey, I was there too! I drove the Green ‘97 Mustang.

I agree the course was... interesting. Never before had I encountered a direction change so fast that it felt like my power steering couldn’t keep up in the Mustang. (Had it happen in every autoX I’ve done in my Magnum though.) I think it was coming out of the Chicago box after the crossover.

Also the dirty section got me a DNF my first run. Wasn’t anticipating having that little grip compared to the rest of the course.

The first-gear-only part at the beginning was all kinds of lame and the Chicago box after the turnaround was stupid frustrating as hell.

Tight can be OK but even by autocross standards this was silly

The entrance of the Chicago box screwed me so many times. I had no idea a miata could understeer thatbad.

Haha yeah you basically like came to a stop in that Chicago box. Do you have the 5 speed or the 6 speed? I hate starts that are so tight like that, it really puts me in a weird spot with the 6 speed since 1st runs out at such a slow speed. I definitely find that sort of course to be incredibly challenging but that is why it is fun. It really allows the people with a ton of experience to show how important weight transfer and being smooth is.

Six speed with the LSD, which made that gravely part halfway out a lot of fun. Steer with the oppo and the LSD lets me keep putting the power down

Oh yeah, the LSD is so much fun on course. I really dont think it makes me faster most of the time but it definitely makes sliding around a ton more entertaining. The differential was the only reason I could get my rear end out at all with those damn end links. I dont even want to imagine how bad an open diff would have been lol.
